AW17 stays grounded with iconic wMM staples—crisp poplin and oxford shirting over washed American-made black denim trousers in various styles. We continue to feature the beautiful handwork of artisan communities in India and Bolivia with an embellished jacquard and high-novelty hand-knitted sweaters.

We're constantly drawing from the earth and images of women to inform color and mood, respectively. These images demonstrate how well our inspiration gelled this season. The late Irish artist Mary Canty captured our palette perfectly in Beach, a piece she completed late in her career. We were stuck by the contrasting, yet visually complimentary, palette and by the unusual, unexpected tones she mixed together.

The collection’s palette, textures and prints are all derived from the effect of water on the earth, surfaces and textiles. Rain erosion on a cliff face inspired our graphic marble print; colorful algae and mineral deposits in tide pools influenced our mauve, rusty cinnamon and steel blue.
